WHAT DOES A MUFFLER DO? Located under the vehicle, the muffler is a key part of a gas-powered vehicle’s exhaust system. Attachedto the tailpipe, the muffler is designed to quiet the sound of the engine as emissions pass out of thevehicle. The muffler can also enhance performance by getting rid of all of the exhaust gases and takingin oxygen faster to generate power.
